How Do I Get Saved?
Simply Believe In Jesus Christ...
...Ok yes, it's that simple but let’s dig into it a little more. Let's start with the why?
Why Join The Kingdom?
Christianity is for everyone. Wether you feel completely satisfied with life or struggling to keep it together. Even if you think you are a ‘good’ person, we're all born sinners, and we will have to face God on Judgement Day. When you choose to live for God, it comes as a package deal. You will gain peace with God, forgiveness of sin, eternal life and removes the threat of hell.
Confess & Believe
Great, you're still interested! Now let’s go to the Bible.
- "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" Romans 10:9 NIV
The verse first tells us to confess with your mouths. Declaring is more than repeating the scripture out loud. It's an honest confession affirming Jesus as the sovereign lord over your life. You’re choosing to no longer lead your life with sin, but to yield to Jesus and His will. When we choose to let God take the lead in our lives, all things work together for the good.
Second we have believing in our heart. What exactly are we believing in? Unfortunately, we didn’t get the luxury of witnessing the crucifixion of Jesus. When the Bible tells us too ‘believe’, it’s telling us to have this faith that Jesus rose from the dead without depending on miracles, signs, and wonders. It’s the start of a trusting relationship with God. Learning how to rely on Him. If God raised Jesus from the dead, we know we can depend on Him with our lives.
What's Next?
Repent
Don’t make the mistake of thinking you have to wait to be perfect first before getting saved.
- “…It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17 NIV
God wants you as you are. As we are confessing to Jesus, we’re telling him “Here I am Lord, this sinner, please forgive me for the wrong I’ve done. I’m ready to do things your way.” Remember, repentance is a change of mind that leads to a change in action. As you get deeper into your faith your life starts to change for the better naturally.
Pray Daily
Prayer is taking a moment of your day to spend time with God; create personal relationship with Him. It’s good to know we have a forever friend that wants to listen and help us. After a while, you’ll become dependent on Him. Tell Him how much you love Him and thank him for everything he has done for you. Dump all your baggage on him and admit you need help. He wants to hear it all. Try to make It a daily habit. After praying, open your bible and you'll hear God speak back to you.
- “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
- “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NIV
- “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NIV
Study The Bible
The Bible provides us with spiritual nourishment and helps us understand God’s will in our lives. Additional, with its many lessons and commandments, the Bible trains us on how to live a righteous and meaningful life. Pray before opening your Bible and ask God for guidance and clear understanding. In the beginning, the Bible can be overwhelming but take your time. Maybe start off reading Psalms or a parable then move to stories. Reading a different translation is helpful but try to refer back to the KJV at times. After reading the bible, take some time to meditate and take in what you read.
- “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
- “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 NIV
- “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 NIV
Get Baptized
We see that salvation is establishing a relationship with God. Think of baptism as making the relationship status public. It outwardly shows confession of faith and commitment to Christ.
- “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead, we too might walk in newness of life” Romans 6:4 NIV
First, only a Christian should baptize a Christian. To make things is easy, find a Pastor to baptize you. Remember, you’re being baptized into the body of Christ and not that particular church. We’ll talk more about a church home later. Second, be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, And Holy Spirit. Third, the only way to be baptized is to fully submerge your body in water.
- “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Find A Church Home
The definition of church goes beyond a building. It’s a body of believers to fellowship with.
